Deloitte's 14th annual Gen Z and Millennial Survey — 23,482 respondents across 44 countries — documents a generation redefining what work means. Three-quarters of Gen Zs (75%) and millennials say an organization's community engagement and societal impact are important factors when choosing an employer. Roughly nine in ten (89–92%) say a sense of purpose is important to their job satisfaction. This generation is not asking to be given purpose. They are choosing employers, communities, and commitments based on whether those structures make real purpose possible.
Key fact: 75% of Gen Zs and millennials say community engagement is a factor in choosing an employer — a direct signal of what they are willing to commit to when the opportunity is real.
